February Half-Term Fun with the Wales History Trails Passport Challenge

14 February 2025 |

Parents often seek engaging and educational activities to keep their children entertained during February Half-Term – when it’s cold, wet and miserable. Well, fear not, we believe a great option is the Wales History Trails Passport Challenge, offering families a chance to delve into Wales’ rich heritage while enjoying memorable outings, and even a chance to win an exciting prize!

Win a Micro Scooter!

Our Challenge has prizes! In November, Sophia (9-years-old) and Oscar (6-years-old), from Milton Keynes won the Den Making Kit in November! They only needed to visit one museum during the Welsh Museums Festival, but managed three in total – visiting museums in Pontypridd, Chepstow and St Fagans!

But there’s still plenty of time to win the grand prize – a Micro Scooter! Collect stamps from six participating museums by 27 April 2025, to enter the draw.

How to Participate:

  1. Collect Your Passport: Available at any participating museum.
  2. Visit and Explore: Receive a stamp upon each visit.
  3. Enter the Prize Draw: After gathering six stamps, submit your entry online.

Check out your local museum to find out what they have on offer! This February, we particularly like:

Monmouthshire Museums – Abergavenny and Chepstow Museums are holding themed drop-in crafts from love spoons to dragons.

Oriel Plas Glyn-y-Weddw – The 2025 exhibition programme is showcasing Welsh printmaking talent, by artists working across a variety of subjects, styles and media. It includes various events and creative sessions to celebrate printing.

CofGâr Museums – The family of five museums based in Carmarthenshire have an array of crafts and puzzles on offer this half-term.

Amgueddfa Cymru Family – The family of seven museums (with the exception of the National Slate Museum, which is temporarily closed) has something for everyone, including The Fossil Swamp exhibition in National Museum Cardiff, which includes a huge 3D centrepiece Stigmaria from Brymbo in north east Wales.

Planning Tips:

  • Verify museum hours Before visiting, confirm the opening times of each museum to ensure a smooth experience.
  • Check booking details Given the popularity of half-term events, it’s advisable to check whether you need to book tickets.

Whether embarking on the Wales History Trails Passport Challenge or exploring other museum events, families can create lasting memories together.
