From this Saturday, until 3 November, you’ll have a fantastic opportunity to discover the hidden treasures right on your doorstep as the Welsh Museums Festival returns! 46 museums across Wales will be hosting an array of exciting events, workshops, and exhibitions, offering you and your family the chance to connect with Wales’ rich culture and history.
Museums are more than just places where artefacts are stored; they are spaces that bring history to life and connect us to our heritage. Whether it’s delving into the stories of the past or inspiring future generations, museums offer something for everyone. And with many events completely free during the Festival, it’s the perfect excuse to enjoy time with your family.
Join the Wales History Trails Passport Challenge
In addition to the wide variety of events across all 46 museums, the Festival is also launching its Wales History Trails Passport Challenge. This exciting initiative encourages families to visit participating museums and collect stamps in their “passports”.
The Passport Challenge will continue until the end of April 2025, giving you plenty of time to visit multiple museums and discover the incredible history of Wales. Although not every museum is participating in the challenge, those that are will offer unique activities designed to engage and educate visitors of all ages.
And here’s the bonus: if you visit at least one museum during half-term, you’ll have the chance to win a den-making kit—perfect for some fun at home – and if you visit six by end of April, you could win a micro-scooter!

Support Local Museums and Communities
Visiting museums doesn’t just enrich your understanding of history—it also supports local communities. Independent museums across Wales play a significant role in the local economy, often providing employment and fostering a sense of belonging. By attending the Welsh Museums Festival, you’re helping ensure these vital cultural spaces continue to thrive for future generations.
From small, local gems to larger national institutions, there’s something for everyone to discover. Whether you’re interested in maritime history, the Industrial Revolution, or ancient artefacts, you’ll find a museum that tells the stories of Wales in a way that resonates with you.
So, as the days get colder and the clocks go back, why not spend time in one of these warm, welcoming spaces? Grab your passport, explore the history that surrounds you, and be a part of this year’s Welsh Museums Festival. Your visit will make a difference – not just for you, but for your community as well.
